Scarlett Johansson is keen to release more music – the actress wants to record her third album. The Lost in Translation star released a disc of Tom Waits covers Anywhere I Lay My Head in 2008, as well as last year’s album Break Up, on which she collaborated with Pete Yorn. And despite continuing her successful movie career, Johansson is eager to head back into the studio to record more tracks – but this time she wants to write her own songs for the record. She tells MTV News, “I would love to do another album. The spirit has not moved me yet in that direction, but I would never put that idea out. I had such an incredible time doing Break Up and doing the (Tom) Waits (covers) album that I think there might be something in there in the future. “I mean, I love to do covers. Covers are fun. I’m a huge music lover, music collector, listener and all those things. I like to do covers ’cause I feel like I’m in the shower. I think I’d probably do original songs for sure.”

Anne Hathaway, Kristen Stewart and Natalie Portman are in the running to star in the remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. An Education actress Carey Mulligan and Juno star Ellen Page are also reportedly keen to take on the lead role in the new version of the film – based on the novel by Swedish author Stiegg Larsson – with Keira Knightley, Mia Wasikowska and Scarlett Johansson also said to want the part. However, director David Fincher is said to be unsure whether he wants to cast an established star or an unknown actress. A source told website Deadline.com: “David is not sure if he wants to go with an actress of any note or go with an unknown. David’s process is very specific and private. He’s looking for authenticity and a degree of fierceness and believability capable of delivering the intensity that the part on the page calls for.” Brad Pitt is believed to have been offered the male lead in the film. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo – a Swedish version of which was released in cinemas earlier this year – is the first in a trilogy, followed by The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest.

Scarlett Johansson has been nominated for a Tony award for her Broadway debut. The Lost In Translation actress is in the running for the Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play category at the coveted ceremony – which recognises the best in US stage productions – for her role in the Arthur Miller play A View From The Bridge. Scarlett is one of many famous names to be nominated for an award, with Catherine Zeta-Jones also given the nod in the Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical category for her singing-and-dancing turn in A Little Night Music. The Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play category looks set to be one of the most hotly-contested, with big screen favourites Denzel Washington, Jude Law, Live Schreiber and Christopher Walken contesting the accolade with Red star Alfred Molina. Other notable nominations included Green Day’s American Idiot, which is up for Best Musical. Denzel’s play Fences was one of the most nominated productions, getting the nod in 10 categories. Only the musical Fela! and La Cage Aux Folles – which starred Frasier actor Kelsey Grammer – received more nominations, with a total of 11 each. The 64th annual Tony Awards will be broadcast from New York’s Radio City Music Hall on June 13. No host for the ceremony has yet been announced.

Gwyneth Paltrow has laughed off “lame” rumours she fell out with Scarlett Johansson on the set of Iron Man 2 – insisting she “adores” the young actress. Paltrow reprises her role as Pepper Potts in the superhero sequel opposite Robert Downey, Jr. and Johansson joins the cast as the villainous Black Widow. Rumours of a rift between the pair have been rife ever since they filmed the movie, but Paltrow is adamant she gets on well with her 25-year-old co-star – and especially enjoys her “dirty sense of humour”. She tells People.com, “People tell me, ‘Oh you had a fight.’ They’re pitting you against each other and I just think, ‘Why do we need to make a problem between women?’ I think that’s the part that’s lame. “I adore Scarlett. I loved having her on set. She is really funny. She swears a lot. She has a dirty sense of humour. She loves to cook. She’s like a girl after my own heart.”

Scarlett Johansson has confirmed she would be interested in playing Courtney Love in a big screen biopic of the rocker’s late husband Kurt Cobain. Movie bosses are currently in talks to bring the Nirvana frontman’s life story to cinemas, with the help of his widow, Love, who will act as an adviser on the project. Love has been talking about the film in recent weeks, announcing she would like to see either Ryan Gosling or James McAvoy to play her late husband, and she’s named Johansson as her favourite to play her in the movie. Now Johansson has addressed the rumours, admitting she hasn’t been approached about the project – but is “intrigued” about the possibility of playing the Hole frontwoman. She tells MTV News, “I know that there is a script. That’s as much as I know about it. I’m a big fan of Courtney’s, and I think she’s very, very talented. But I don’t know anything about the project. I think the idea is interesting and intriguing, but I would have to really wrap my head around it.”
