Picking up where the first film left us, the world is now aware that millionaire businessman Tony Stark is superhero Iron Man. Stark faces constant pressure from the US government to share his powerful technology but he won’t share it as he’s aware that in the wrong hands, it could be lethal. The government are the least of Mr Stark’s worries as he faces deadly competition from Whiplash aka Ivan Vanko the bitter son of a Russian scientist. The film also sees the return of reliable Pepper Pots and Lt. Colonel James Rhodes who finds himself the owner of his own iron man body suit. Directed by Jon Favreau and starring Robert Downey Jr., along with Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Garry Shandling, and John Slattery, Iron Man 2 will land in theaters on May 7th, 2010. Source: MovieWeb.com

Sirish Kunder, who is co-producing Alien Sahib along with his choreographer-cum-director wife Farah Khan, will meet both the stars in Los Angeles and sign up a deal. Sirish Kunder, apart from producing the film, will also wield the megaphone. Apparently, the script of Alien Sahib needs a foreigner to play the female lead and the producers do not want to settle for someone less than the A-listers in Hollywood. Source: Behind Woods.com

Marvel Comics is to reveal the backstory of its Black Widow character in a new minseries titled Deadly Origin. The Soviet assassin first appeared as an Iron Man villain in 1964, and is due to feature alongside the character on the big screen in next year’s Iron Man 2, played by Scarlett Johansson. Captain Britain scribe Paul Cornell has written the series for Marvel and Tom Raney has provided artwork. “A hidden enemy is killing everyone our heroine Natalia has ever been close to: romantic partners, friends, people she was kind to in passing,” Cornell wrote on his blog. “The first issue has guest appearances by Wolverine, the Winter Soldier and Joe Stalin, flashbacks courtesy of John Paul Leon.” Marvel is also reissuing the character’s most significant appearances as two hardcover collections – Iron Man: Deadly Solutions and Black Widow: Web Of Intrigue – to acquaint fans with the identity prior to Iron Man 2’s release. Black Widow: Deadly Origin #1 is available now.

Keira Knightley has beaten Scarlett Johansson to land the part of Eliza Doolittle in a new film adaptation of My Fair Lady, it has emerged. Now the 24-year-old actress will be seen starring in the film which will be directed by Joe Wright. “Joe and Keira are looking forward to working together again immensely,” says a friend of the 37-year-old director. In August, it was reported that Knightley had been forced to compete with Johansson, 24, for the role of the Cockney flower seller played by Audrey Hepburn in the 1964 film, reports The Telegraph. “I have two actresses as potential Elizas, one British, the other American,” said Sir Cameron Mackintosh, who is producing the film with Duncan Kenworthy, at the time. “You’d know their names, but I’m not letting on,” he added. Recently, Kenworthy said: “I think Keira would be absolutely fabulous in it.” Emma Thompson is writing the film’s script, for which Daniel Craig has been mooted as a possible Professor Henry Higgins.

Scarlett Johansson is being lined up to play Marilyn Monroe. The 24-year-old blonde beauty is reportedly at the top of a list of actresses being considered by director Simon Curtis and producer David Parfitt for new film My Week With Marilyn. Kate Hudson, Amy Adams and Michelle Williams have also been mentioned as possible stars of the film, according to newspaper columnist Baz Bamigboye. The movie will be based on the diary of Colin Clark, an employee of Laurence Olivier, who looked after the blonde bombshell when she came to London to film Olivier’s The Prince and the Showgirl in 1957. In the diary, Clark talks about showing Marilyn around Queen Elizabeth’s private apartments at Windsor Castle and other “behind-the-scenes” trips. Clark published excerpts of his diary in 1958, but left the details of one week out. These chapters weren’t released until he died in 2002, and will form the basis of the movie. Parfitt explained: “Once everyone else was dead, Clark had arranged for the missing week to be issued.” British film writer Adrian Hodges has adapted the papers into a script.

Scarlett Johansson is set to star in a remake of The Bride of Frankenstein. The 24-year-old blonde bombshell is tipped to portray a sexier version of the terrifying female monster in an updated version of the original 1935 horror movie. A source said: “The Bride of Frankenstein will be young this time. They’re looking for a person with great power and sex appeal. Someone along the lines of Scarlett Johansson or Anne Hathaway.” The wild-haired bride was originally played by English actress Elsa Lanchester. The film follows on from Frankenstein – which sees Dr. Frankenstein bring a “human” to life from separate body parts – and sees the doctor create a partner for the monster. However, when Dr. Frankenstein brings the bride to life, she rejects the monster. Neil Burger – who previously worked on The Illusionist – is set to director the movie and pen the script. Guillermo del Toro recently revealed he is planning to begin work on a new version of Frankenstein, based on Mary Shelley’s novel.

Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut has not been “dashed” contrary to reports. The producer of the upcoming film New York, I Love You refutes rumors that her segment was deemed “unwatchable.” New York Post reported that the 24-year-old actress’ first directorial effort in a segment for the film has been cut because it was “really bad.” Her segment starred Kevin Bacon in black and white shots. However, producer Emmanual Bengihy denies the reports, saying that Johansson’s segment was left out in the theatrical cut because of creative differences. He stated, “Scarlett presented me with an extremely compelling, albeit unconventional, narrative that appeared as though it would not necessarily conform to the overall approach of the entire collective.” “However, I was very much moved by her vision and I did not want to pass on the opportunity to help her develop it. All that matters to me is the genuine movie language of the author.” He added that he agreed with the actress that a “final determination of its appropriateness in the context of the other contributions and the overall story would be best in the editorial process. And after months of editing, I had to admit that there were editorial decisions to be made in the interest of serving the overall narrative and composition that resulted in previously filmed scenes and footage not getting used.” Johannson’s efforts are not totally wasted. Her directorial debut will be featured in the DVD version of the film.

The Oscars were full of the “who’s who” of Hollywood and even Iron Man director Jon Favreau took time out from writing Iron Man 2 to walk the red carpet. He spoke to E! about the highly anticipated sequel. According to The Playlist, Favreau said Emily Blunt is officially out as the choice for the Black Widow character due to her obligation to Fox’s Gulliver’s Travels. Favreau, however, did not confirm EW’s casting news that Scarlett Johansson is in talks to take over the role, “On E!’s post show at the red carpet of some party, Jon Favreau said that Fox exercised its ["Gulliver's Travellers"] option on Emily Blunt, and that she definitely won’t be in Iron Man 2. The reporter was chatting with Favreau and asking about what he can tell them about IM2. He said Mickey Rourke isn’t officially cast but that he is a fan. Then she asked about Emily and Favreau said that about Fox exercising their option, which I hadn’t heard before. I thought they were still trying to make it work. He said he was disappointed but didn’t say anything about Scarlett Johansson replacing her or anyone else taking the role.” Thanks to iesb.net for this info!
