Scarlett Johannson to Play Bride of Frankenstein?

Scarlett Johansson is set to star in a remake of The Bride of Frankenstein. The 24-year-old blonde bombshell is tipped to portray a sexier version of the terrifying female monster in an updated version of the original 1935 horror movie. A source said: “The Bride of Frankenstein will be young this time. They’re looking for a person with great power and sex appeal. Someone along the lines of Scarlett Johansson or Anne Hathaway.” The wild-haired bride was originally played by English actress Elsa Lanchester. The film follows on from Frankenstein – which sees Dr. Frankenstein bring a “human” to life from separate body parts – and sees the doctor create a partner for the monster. However, when Dr. Frankenstein brings the bride to life, she rejects the monster. Neil Burger – who previously worked on The Illusionist – is set to director the movie and pen the script. Guillermo del Toro recently revealed he is planning to begin work on a new version of Frankenstein, based on Mary Shelley’s novel.

Producer Defends Johansson’s Directorial Effort

Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut has not been “dashed” contrary to reports. The producer of the upcoming film New York, I Love You refutes rumors that her segment was deemed “unwatchable.” New York Post reported that the 24-year-old actress’ first directorial effort in a segment for the film has been cut because it was “really bad.” Her segment starred Kevin Bacon in black and white shots. However, producer Emmanual Bengihy denies the reports, saying that Johansson’s segment was left out in the theatrical cut because of creative differences. He stated, “Scarlett presented me with an extremely compelling, albeit unconventional, narrative that appeared as though it would not necessarily conform to the overall approach of the entire collective.” “However, I was very much moved by her vision and I did not want to pass on the opportunity to help her develop it. All that matters to me is the genuine movie language of the author.” He added that he agreed with the actress that a “final determination of its appropriateness in the context of the other contributions and the overall story would be best in the editorial process. And after months of editing, I had to admit that there were editorial decisions to be made in the interest of serving the overall narrative and composition that resulted in previously filmed scenes and footage not getting used.” Johannson’s efforts are not totally wasted. Her directorial debut will be featured in the DVD version of the film.

Blunt is out but is Johansson in for Iron Man 2?

The Oscars were full of the “who’s who” of Hollywood and even Iron Man director Jon Favreau took time out from writing Iron Man 2 to walk the red carpet. He spoke to E! about the highly anticipated sequel. According to The Playlist, Favreau said Emily Blunt is officially out as the choice for the Black Widow character due to her obligation to Fox’s Gulliver’s Travels. Favreau, however, did not confirm EW’s casting news that Scarlett Johansson is in talks to take over the role, “On E!’s post show at the red carpet of some party, Jon Favreau said that Fox exercised its ["Gulliver's Travellers"] option on Emily Blunt, and that she definitely won’t be in Iron Man 2. The reporter was chatting with Favreau and asking about what he can tell them about IM2. He said Mickey Rourke isn’t officially cast but that he is a fan. Then she asked about Emily and Favreau said that about Fox exercising their option, which I hadn’t heard before. I thought they were still trying to make it work. He said he was disappointed but didn’t say anything about Scarlett Johansson replacing her or anyone else taking the role.” Thanks to iesb.net for this info!

Johansson as Black Widow in Iron Man 2?!

Producers looking for new a “Black Widow”. Scarlett Johansson may be the latest replacement in the second Iron Man film. Emily Blunt was originally cast as Russian spy Natasha Romanoff but with her commitments to Gulliver’s Travels, Blunt may be unable to fill the role of Black Widow. While Blunt’s representatives are trying to figure a way to fit both movies into her schedule, producers are prepared to move on. According to EW.com, producers have started talking to alternative actresses to take the role, the list being topped by Scarlett Johansson. While Gulliver’s Travels already has a scheduled start date of April 15, Iron Man 2 has neither a shooting script nor a start date. This won’t be the first star to have lost a role in the franchise. Late last year, Terrence Howard was dropped as War Machine Jim Rhodes and replaced with Don Cheadle.
