Johansson: ‘Wedding was like a drug deal’

Scarlett Johannson has compared arranging her wedding to doing a drug deal. The actress, who married Ryan Reynolds in 2008, explained that she had tried to keep the ceremony private. Speaking to David Letterman, she explained: “I got married in a very remote part of Canada. Well, that’s probably most of Canada! “It’s absolutely unbelievable. I mean, where we got married there were bears and whales and eagles.” Johannson added: “I never thought that I’d be planning my wedding in, like, a dark alley somewhere, but it’s turned out that way. It was really quite secretive and I felt like I was doing a drug deal without all the fun. “We tried to be very private about it and it seemed to pay off. There was a moment – it was at the edge of earth, absolutely the middle of nowhere, but we did have helicopters. That was terrifying.”

Schreiber: ‘I’ve fallen for Johansson’

Actor Liev Schreiber was blown away by Scarlett Johansson in rehearsals for upcoming Broadway production A View From The Bridge – and has “kind of fallen” for the actress. The Lost In Translation beauty is making her Broadway debut in the Arthur Miller show, which sees her play the niece Schreiber’s character, Eddie Carbone, is obsessed with. And the Defiance actor is full of praise for his co-star. He tells Entertainment Weekly, “I’ve just been really impressed with her composure. Broadway is a pressurised situation and we’ve had a really short rehearsal period. She’s really evolved so much, especially over the last two to three weeks. “I’m blown away by her. I’ve kind of fallen for Scarlett.” The show previewed at the Cort Theatre over Christmas and is set to officially open on January 24 for a 14-week run.

Scarlett Johansson will spend New Year’s Eve eating pizza and watching The Twilight Zone. The 25-year-old actress – who is married to actor Ryan Reynolds – will see in 2010 with a take away, champagne and a marathon viewing session of the cult show because of work commitments. She said: “We’re both working on New Year’s Day anyway. So, we won’t do much. You know, pizza would be nice, a little champagne. Maybe watch the Twilight Zone marathon. That’s always a favourite for me.” The screen beauty is “over” big celebratory parties and much prefers a quiet night in these days. She laughed: “Going from one party to the next and surfing to find the right thing, and being in a taxicab when the clock strikes – I’m so over that stuff. At the ripe old age of 25. I have the most fun when I’m surrounded by people I love in one place that’s comfortable and we can hear each other. You can play card games, watch movies, I’m happy.”

The government are the least of Mr Stark’s worries as he faces deadly competition from Whiplash aka Ivan Vanko the bitter son of a Russian scientist. The film also sees the return of reliable Pepper Pots and Lt. Colonel James Rhodes who finds himself the owner of his own iron man body suit. Directed by Jon Favreau and starring Robert Downey Jr., along with Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. The Taking Woodstock actor has joked he is envious of his partner of four years, Naomi Watts – who he two children with – because she dresses up in glamorous outfits when she appears on the big screen. The 42-year-old star is currently rehearsing for A View from the Bridge Broadway show, where he will star alongside Scarlett Johansson – who is married to Ryan Reynolds. When asked if it is awkward to be busier than their partners, Scarlett quipped: “I don’t think Naomi is going for the same roles as Liev!” When Liev confessed to wanting “a couple of roles she’s played,” Scarlett jokingly suggested it was so he could “wear the heels and the jewellery.” Liev confirmed: “Yeah!”

Scarlett Johansson felt “so sorry” for the stuntmen in her upcoming movie Iron Man 2 — because they couldn’t go to the toilet! The actress — who wears a skin-tight catsuit in the flick for her role as the Black Widow — says her colleagues could rarely relieve themselves because of their heavy and complicated costumes. “You’re working with the stunt crew and they’re going through the craziest stuff so you feel bad about complaining that your knee has been blue for three months,” explains Scarlett. “The guys doing the stunts in those Iron Man suits, they can’t move in it and can’t take it off. “I’d say, ‘Have you peed today?’ and they’re like, ‘No, we can’t move, we can’t take it off, we can’t drink any water.’ I felt so sorry for them.”

Scarlett Johansson was “apprehensive” about doing charity work in Africa. The 25-year-old actress was nervous when she recently travelled to Rwanda to support several women’s charities – which help improve the lives of females in the poverty-hit region – because she had been warned she might be disturbed by what she saw. She said: “I had a bit of apprehension walking into the first hospital. But I soon realised you’re standing before people. They might be very ill but they’re just people like everyone else. Suddenly you’re not aware of how you’re feeling, how you’re going to look. If you let your guard down and stop being aware of yourself, you’re able to really connect with people.” During her work with charity Red, the blonde beauty was amazed by how positive the women she visited were and how strong their bond was with each other. She told Harper’s Bazaar magazine : “I’ve always found women have power in numbers. We draw strength from the support of other women.” The curvaceous actress has since posed in sexy animal-print outfits for a photo shoot in Harper’s Bazaar magazine to raise awareness of the cause.
