I have been out of town for the past week so I’m a little behind on news. Bear with me as I work on getting the site up-to-date this weekend.
Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona has indeed been confirmed to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. It will be screened out of competition. For more details, please refer to the festival’s official site.

The Spirit was featured at the New York Comic Convention yesterday. In result, a new teaser trailer and a couple of new posters have been released online. Unfortunately, the teaser does not feature Scarlett but you may still want to have a look at the MTV Movies Blog or YouTube as it certainly looks pretty cool! The posters are also available in the gallery but again, there’s no Scarlett to be seen in those. I hope they’ll eventually release one of her, like this one of Eva Mendes (seen on the left).

According to Le Parisien, Vicky Cristina Barcelona will have its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17, 2008. The films three stars, Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, are expected to be in attendance. The Cannes Film Festival press conference will be held on April 23 so we will have an official confirmation on this matter next week.

Harry Potter star Emma Watson will replace Scarlett Johansson in Napoleon and Betsy. Scarlett will instead take the role of a producer alongside her mother Melanie Sloan.
Emma Watson is attached to star in Napoleon and Betsy, a period drama being written and directed by Benjamin Ross.
Watson will play Betsy Balcombe, a young, impetuous noblewoman trapped on the isolated British Isle of St. Helena who falls in love with Napoleon, who is in exile on the island.
Watson is filling the shoes recently vacated by Scarlett Johansson, who stepped aside as the part skewed younger.
Johansson is still producing, along with Alexandra Milchan, Melanie Sloan and Gilles Arondeau.
In the May issue of Spin magazine, out next week, the actress-turned-singer Scarlett Johansson talks about the Hollywood gossip girls.
Since her star turn in Lost in Translation, Scarlett Johansson has always managed to keep a foothold on the classier, cool side of Hollywood. But now, with her Dave Sitek-produced debut album, “Anywhere I Lay My Head”, due out May 20 on Atco/Rhino, the comparisons to fellow musically-inclined young actresses were sure to follow. Here’s what she had to say about how she sees herself in relation to Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton:
“I have no relationship with either of them, even as far as my lifestyle or the music I listen to. They probably made music that fits with their lifestyle — ‘Wouldn’t it be great if I were dancing to my own song in “da club”?’ But my album is more suited to my lifestyle. I live a very low-key life.”
Vivendi Entertainment and Palm Pictures have secured U.S. rights to New York, I Love You, the ensemble collection of 12 short films currently in production in Manhattan.

The companies plan to release the film early next year. Shooting is almost two-thirds complete.
Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson make their helming debuts on two of the shorts, all of which are love stories of various kinds. Among helmers onboard are Brett Ratner and Fatih Akin, and the cast already includes Kevin Bacon, Orlando Bloom, Julie Christie, Chris Cooper and Shia LaBeouf.
The folks over at Lionsgate have released the first official production stills of The Spirit, including one of Scarlett as Silken Floss, the character described as “a punk secretary and frigid vixen”. Apparently, the leaked unapproved photos of the film created quite an uproar online as many fans were disappointed in the look of them. I guess some did not realize that they are simply green screen on set and costume photos, not actual finalized stills. So the studio released these new images to showcase what the film will actually look like. In my opinion, Scarlett looks pretty damn cool here and I personally cannot wait to see The Spirit!

The crashing dollar and the end of various forms of tax financing worth up to 50% of budgets have left the U.K. with just two reasons why any producer would come to shoot there: talent and material.
Fortunately, Britain is blessed with an abundance of both.
Phillip Noyce’s Mary, Queen of Scots is a good example of the sort of indie project it still makes sense to film in the British Isles. Although producers Alexandra Milchan and Melanie Johansson are American, the script was originally developed by BBC Films with local writer Jimmy McGovern.
The historical subject matter argues strongly for production to take place somewhere closely approximating the authentic locations of the story.
For all those who have asked – Lionsgate asked me to remove all of the Spirit production stills as they are unapproved images.
